BIS IS:13779 Certification - What It Is and Why You Should Only Buy Certified Meters
IS:13779 is the Indian Standard for Static Electricity Meters - mandatory for all energy meters sold in India for sub-metering. BIS certification means the manufacturer's specific meter models have been tested at a NABL-accredited laboratory and found compliant.
Why Uncertified Meters Are a Risk
Accuracy risk: uncertified meters often run 3-8% fast or slow - significant over-billing in a large society. Legal risk: uncertified meters are indefensible in a regulatory audit. Warranty risk: no meaningful warranty coverage.
How to Verify
Visit bis.gov.in. Search by the manufacturer's BIS license number. Check that the certificate covers IS:13779 (2020) and is currently valid. Physical meters should carry the ISI mark. All PES meters are BIS IS:13779 (2020) certified - documentation at sales@pesonline.co.in.
